Reason to feed Duck Soup "Duck Soup" is a catch-all name for any special food used for supplemental feeding of a sick ferret. None have duck as an ingredient! The term was coined years ago when a ferret named "Lucki Duck" was fed just such a mix to help him over an illness. There are dozens of "duck soup" recipes. Chicken baby food is probably the best thing you can feed your ferret on a temporary basis to help during times of illness. Ferrets who are not eating should be fed around 80-90cc's per pound of ferret per day. Divide into 4 to 6 individual feedings. TIP: It's a good idea to feed "duck soup" to your ferret as a treat while the ferret is healthy. Then, when/if they become ill and don't want to eat, it won't be as big a battle to feed them when you give them their "treat."
Here's what I use:
Family pack of 10 chicken thighs cooked about an hour to hour and 1/2 then deboned. I use the fat too. Make sure the grissle pieces on the end of the chicken don't go in the mix
3-4 cups of their mixed kibble soaked in the chicken broth (I use Evo Ferret)
2 cans Hill's a/d from the vet
1/2 tube of ferretvite
Couple scoops of Uncle Jim's Duck Soup from Petsupermarket (optional)
Couple scoops of Nupro http://www.ferretdepot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=NPR16
Big squirt of ferretone
1 or 2 cans stage 2 baby food chicken or turkey
Mix it all together add some broth to make it "soupy" but still creamy
Blend small amounts at a time, put in large bowl, mix again
Then put in either small Tupperware containers to use during the week
Or ice cube trays and freeze.
If you put in the ice cube trays, take out the next day and put in freezer bags
